2019 Weekend Trip
Posted 8-26-19
Had a great weekend at Powell. Visited Face Canyon, West Canyon, and Little Rock Creek Bay.
West canyon went pretty far back and we were able to boat through the cat tails. The water level seemed optimal to get to the back of West Canyon and hike. Face Canyon was quite impressive and very accessible. We were able to cruise back through the maze of slots/canyons in the boat with very little room to spare. West and Face canyon had more limited camp sites due to beaches being under water.
Here are some pictures of West Canyon from the trip

Here is a table of the lake level and temperatures during the trip.

2016 Trip
Posted 9-17-16
Wen't to Lake Powell with a small group this year. We stayed docked at the marina due to the size of the group. However it was a great time. We went out on the ski boat every day and explored many canyons and coves.
Notes (Water Level: About 3,613 feet)
- Just south of Dangling Rope there was a nice sandy beach cove. Somewhat exposed to the main channel but perfect for tent camping.
- Rock Creek Bay has some amazing camp sites. Many sand bars and coves exposed at the current lake level.
- Last Chance Bay was lacking coves and camp sites. There were some camp sites towards the back of the Bay. We found a slalom ski buoy course and a dry waterfall.
- Gunisght Bay was mostly open but had a nice cove in the back of the canyon.
2014 Trip

Just returned from Lake Powell. This is the first trip that we have been on with our very own rental houseboat. We only moved the houseboat to West Canyon but the spot was so good that we did not want to leave.
We were able to hike West Canyon, hike Rainbow Bridge, and explore close by canyons. We explored Labyrinth, Face Canyon, Wetherill Canyon, and Forbidding Canyon. It is worth noting that there is a great camp-site, at this lake level, in Forbidding Canyon. Tall canyon walls and a sandbar make Forbidding Canyon an appealing spot for a houseboat. We also saw a dual prope waterplane take off during this trip from Face Canyon.
Here is a table of the lake level and temperatures during the trip.

2013 Trip
Posted 9-23-13
Once again we made it into the Escalante. The trip was great and September ended up being a very non busy month on the lake. We had one of the best spots I have ever seen, in Fifty Mile Canyon, and we completed many hikes.
The weather held up the whole trip. The week before we arrived and the week after experienced storms.
Notes:
- Moved Sunday from Antelope Point Marina to West Canyon.
- From West Canyon we were able to stop at Dangling Rope on Tuesday. At Dangling Rope the houseboat had 5/8 in each engine (Fuel). We refueled the engines, waverunners, ski boat, and at least 5-7 five gallon gas cans.
- The top toy tank appears to hold 80-100 gallons and does not have a gauge. We did not refill the upper toy tank at Dangling Rope. Used approximately 80% of the upper toy tank on the houseboat. 20% used for ski boat.
- The bottom toy tank holds an unknown amount of fuel. I estimate 50-100 gallons. We did not refill the lower toy tank at Dangling Rope and never used it during the trip.
- We were able to move the houseboat into Davis Gulch on Tuesday, moved the house boat Wednesday to FiftyMile Canyon, and then made a straight shot back to Antelope Point without needing to stop at Dangling Rope.
- We were at the entrance of FiftyMile Canyon on Saturday morning at 8AM (Utah time). Made it to Antelope Point Marina by 5PM (Utah Time).

2009 Trip
I recently returned from Lake Powell 2009! It was an amazing trip that did not suffer nearly as many problems as the 2007 trip. We had to stay the first two nights in the marina, but it was still a great time.
We were able to travel up to Wetherill Canyon on day 3 and from there I was able to visit Mountain Sheep Canyon and Rainbow Bridge. Day 5 we left Wetherill Canyon and traveled down to West Canyon. This trip to
West Canyon gave me one of the best hiking experiences I have ever had. We went on a 4+ hour hike and saw some of the most interesting canyons ever. I had to swim, climb, and walk to get through this great canyon.
Check out the pictures in the pictures section of the site. The trip ended with us staying night 6 at the marina.
